This Data Item@ together with ESDUpac A9241@ provides a method for calculating the shear stress distribution along the adhesive of single lap bonded joints. Two analyses are employed; simple shear stress analysis and flexible joint analysis of shear and peel stresses. The joint geometry@ adhesive and adherend properties and load are required for input to the computer program. For the simple shear stress analysis@ the joint can be analysed for tension or shear loading and elastic or inelastic adhesive properties. The flexible joint analysis is used for the single case of tension loading and elastic adhesive properties. The program will accept a range of overlap lengths and/or adhesive shear moduli@ evaluating the case giving the smallest peak stress in the adhesive. The Data Item also describes typical adhesive stress distributions in single lap joints and the possible modes of failure. The theoretical procedures of the computer program of ESDUpac A9241 are also explained and derived from first principles.
