Scope
This standard applies in all scopes where products are operated and maintained. It is written primarily from the point of view of an operator??s maintenance and asset management tasks@ and thus complements standard DIN EN 62402. This standard serves as a foundation for the user and operator to set up comprehensive obsolescence management (OM). Preventative management@ which is carried out before obsolescence occurs@ is known as proactive OM. However@ courses of action to be taken in cases of reactive OM will also be highlighted. The main difference between the methods described above is the advance warning time. Whereas in reactive OM the obsolescence case has already occurred@ in proactive OM there is still a chance to prevent the potential obsolescence@ or to soften its impact by applying countermeasures. This standard supports users and operators in their asset management tasks to help establish comprehensive OM over the entire life cycle@ from planning@ development@ procurement and use through to withdrawal from service (strategic OM@ see Figure 1) This is described from the perspective of the operator or user of products. Figure 2 depicts the paths by which information from individual stages of the supply chain@ from the manufacturer to the corresponding upstream suppliers@ may flow to the operator. This information flow may be actively driven by the operator (black and grey arrows)@ by requesting the information in the supply chain. As a result@ the operator can plan in advance for obsolescence events and react in time (= proactive OM). The information flow can also be driven by the manufacturer or upstream suppliers (arrows below the ??operator??s perspective?? arrow). In this case@ the operator only reacts if notification regarding is received (= reactive OM).
