This standard specifies the terms and definitions of performance requirements and test procedures for low-speed car following systems, basic control strategies, minimum functional requirements, basic driver interface elements, minimum requirements for fault diagnosis and fault handling, and low-speed car following System (LSF) performance testing procedures. The main function of the low-speed following system LSF is to control the vehicle speed to adapt to the speed of the vehicle in front by using information such as the distance to the vehicle in front, the motion status of the host vehicle (the vehicle equipped with LSF), and the driver's commands. The goal of the low-speed car following system is to reduce the driver's workload through semi-automatic longitudinal driving control of the vehicle.
