Scope
1. Scope 1.1 This Standard provides requirements for polybutylene (PB) pipe, tubing, and fittings. Nominal pipe sizes (NPS) covered are from NPS-1/4 through NPS-2. Fittings covered include insert-type fittings, socket fusion fittings, plastic-to-metal transition fittings, and compression-type fittings. These pipes, tubing, and fittings are intended for use in pressure applications such as hot and cold potable and nonpotable water distribution systems. Pipe, tubing, and fittings are intended for use in 690 kPa (100 psi) systems operating at temperatures up to and including 82°C. Note: Use of this tubing in other applications such as sprinkler systems and slab heating systems is acceptable provided they comply with the applicable code requirements. Refer to the manufacturer's recommendations and Appendix b of this Standard. 1.2 The values given in SI (metric) units are the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.
