Scope
1. SCOPe 1.1 This standard contains requirements and test methods for rigid expanded polystyrene insulation in the form of pipe covering and boards made by moulding (EPS) or extrusion (XPS) of expandable polystyrene beads. The standard covers four types of rigid expanded polystyrene distinguished on the basis of their material properties. Products manufactured to this Standard are intended for use as thermal insulation in building construction and other applications for temperatures ranging from -54°C to + 75°C. NOTE: 1. For more detailed information on product properties, see Subsection 8.2. 2. For applications other than the above - e.g., cryogenic, flotation, etc. - consult manufacturers for specific recommendations and properties.
