Scope
"Foreword: As a matter of information@ and for the guidance of manufactures and users who may require these data@ this bulletin gives minimum performance properties on proposed high-strength casing joints@ as developed by the API Committee on Standardization of Oil Country Tubular Goods@ in the course of a study of internal-upset casing sizes and related data. At this meeting the committee approved the following proposals: 1.That material previously discussed as ""internal upset casing"" hereinafter be designated as ""API high-strength casing joint."" 2. That@ for the present@ consideration be limited to four sizes@ these being 516-in.@ 7-in.@ 85/8 -in.@ and 9H-in. That consideration be limited to Grades J-55 and N-80 casing@ except that the 24-lb. Grade J-55@ S%-in. size should not be considered. That further study be confined to two types of joints@ these being for non-upset casing and for internal-upset casing which will permit the passage of the drift specified for the corresponding size and weight of non-upset casing. That further consideration be confined to treated Joints@ it being stated that one method of treatment now being used to a considerable extent@ increases the tensile strength of the threaded joint 85 per cent@ while another treatment in use at present produces a tensile strength of the non-upset threaded joint equal to that of the body of the pipe. That these joints be provided with either long or short threads@ and if couplings with strengths greater than provided by present API couplings are required@ the need can be met by treating the coupling."
