This standard specifies requirements for steel pipes located in or near important water management structures. The requirements in this standard are additional to the requirements of NEN 3650 and specific to the stated location of the steel pipes and apply to both transport and distribution pipes. The standard applies to intersections of steel pipelines with important water management structures or parallel to them, namely:
——a main flood defense;
——a drainage basin;
——a second flood defense;
——a primary road;
——a secondary road;
——a national or provincial waterway. In addition, the following applies:
——the requirements of NEN 3650 must be met, unless deviation from them is expressly indicated in this standard;
——this standard applies to all steel pipes regardless of the medium (including hot water, drinking water and waste water);
——the pipe elements in the intersection and safety zone are connected by butt welds;
——existing pipelines and crossings fall outside the scope of this standard. NOTE The topographical area in which the standard applies is determined by the water management structure and adjacent zones (safety and influence zone).
