Scope
The current study is an inquiry into the effect of distributed porosity on the fatigue resistance of 5083 double-V butt weldments subjected to a constant amplitude@ 0-tension stress cycle. Porosity levels were recorded by normal incidence radiography prior to testing and measured directly on the fatigue fracture surfaces. This study is an extension of a previous study of the effects of porosity on the tensile properties of 5083 and 6061 weldments. Since 5083/5183 materials left over from that previous study have been used@ both the tensile and fatigue properties have been generated for the same series of 5083 welds
