Scope
The blank detail specification is not@ by itself@ a specification. It is part of the generic specification IEC 874-1 (QC210000) and applies to one of the environmental categories described in 1 .l. It includes:?- the mandatory quality assurance test schedules and performance requirements to be performed for the relevant environmental category;?- a blank worksheet with instructions for preparing detail specifications.Environmenta/ Categories a) Environmental category 1Environmental category 1 denotes a protected environment consisting of controlled temperature and humidity conditions with complete protection from the elements. Examples of such environments are offices and buildings with climatically controlled conditions. b) Environmenfal category 2Environmental category 2 denotes an environment without climate control but with protection from the elements. Examples of such environments are outdoor enclosures@ cabinets@ and storage facilities. c) Environmental category 3Environmental category 3 denotes a severe environment without climate control or protection from the elements. Examples of such environments are those found in land vehicles@ ships@ and aircraft. d) Environmental category 4Environmental category 4 denotes a protected climatic environment with climate control or protection from the elements. In this respect it is similar to environmental category 1. Unlike this latter@ however@ environmental category 4 also suggests a severe usage of the connector. Examples of such environments are office buildings with climatically controlled conditions where the connector will experience repeated engagement and disengagement.e) Environmental category 5Environmental category 5 denotes an environment without climate control@ but with protection from the elements. It is similar to environmental category 2. It differs@ however@ in the test sequences. Examples of such environments are outdoor enclosures@ cabinets@ and storage facilities. f) Environmental category 6Environmental category 6 denotes a protected climatic environment with climate control and protection from the elements. It is similar to environmental category 4. It differs@ however@ in the test sequences@ and in addition requires group B tests which are destructive. Examples of such environments are office buildings with climatically controlled conditions where the connector will experience repeated engagement and disengagement. g) Environmental category 99Environmental category 99 should be used where the other standard environmental categories are not suitable for the application. Additional standard environmental categories may be added in future@ if required.
