ESDU 74041 illustrates the use of ESDU 73019 (on range calculation) and ESDU 74018 (on lost range@ fuel and time due to climb and descent)@ by applying them to a practical example. A large subsonic transport is considered with an empty weight of 240 000 lb and a payload of 80 000 lb@ cruising at a Mach number of 0.82. Its performance at various constant heights on stage lengths of 500@ 1000@ 1500 and 2000 nautical miles is calculated and graphs are constructed to show the performance including the fuel used@ stage time@ and the mean speeds.
