- This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) provides an overview of the various types of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE and TFE) back up rings for hydraulic and pneumatic fluid power applications@ including their advantages and disadvantages. Purpose To help the user selecting the right backup ring@ this document provides guidance in the selection of backup rings for various applications. It also identifies older designs that are no longer recommended.
