Purpose and Scope-This SAE Recommended Practice establishes a uniform laboratory test method to evaluate the strength characteristics of passenger car systems under loading conditions simulating vehicle rollover. The test procedure is intended to provide reliable and repeatable results and to permit numerical comparisons. A test is conducted in which the vehicle roof system is loaded under controlled laboratory conditions. Structural strength measurements obtained under these conditions are reproducible. Field and proving ground test procedures for evaluating passenger car roof structural characteristics are reported in SAE J857 and SAE J996.
