ABSTRACT The test material API #78-2 was tested for potential acute toxicity@ using a battery of six tests: Primary Skin Irritation@ Primary Eye Irritation@ Skin Sensitization@ Acute Dermal Toxicity@ Acute Oral Toxicity@ and Subacute Dermal Toxicity. Materials@ methods@ and results of individual tests are presented in this report. The test material API #78-2 exhibited moderately irritating primary skin effects. The acute oral toxicity test determined that API #78-2 has an oral median Lethal dose@ i.e.@ Oral LD50@ of 19.0 ml/kg. the compound caused acute dermal corrosion and resulted in treatment: related signs in the 10 ml/kg treatment group when tested for subacute dermal toxicity. Additionally@ systemic toxic effects were observed for the 10 ml/kg@ 2.5 ml/kg@ and 1.0 ml/kg treatment groups when subjected to histopathologic examination. API #78-2@ however@ did not produce remarkable primary eye irritation or cause skin sensitization. Besides skin irritation@ no obvious signs of toxicity were noted during acute dermal testing.
