Scope: This standard applies to flexible bitumen-containing roofing and waterproofing materials intended primarily for mechanically fastened single-ply waterproofing or ballasted single-ply systems, and establishes a method for determining the shear strength of an adhesive bond between two sheets of the same material. This standard is intended to determine the characteristics of materials after they have been manufactured or supplied, before they are installed. The requirements of this standard apply only to materials and are not applicable to determining the characteristics of waterproofing systems made from them after work has been completed. The shear strength of an adhesive joint depends on the gluing method (fusing with a gas burner flame or a jet of hot air, gluing with hot or cold mastic or molten bitumen, etc.), as well as on the amount of overlap and the quality of gluing. This standard is intended to determine the characteristics of basic or non-basic materials of specific types.
