- What is ISO 3166-3 about? ISO 3166-3 is the third part of Codes for the representation of names of countries and their subdivisions in multi-series. ISO 3166-3 is part of ISO 3166 series which provides universally applicable coded representation of names of countries (current and non-current), dependencies and other areas of particular geological interest and their sub-divisions. ISO 3166-3 specifies basic guidelines for the implementation and maintenance of codes for formerly used names of countries.
