Scope
Part I of this standard covers the minimum requirements for all form-wound squirrel-cage induction motors above National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) 440 frame sizes (nominally 250 horsepower and larger) for use in petroleum industry services. This standard may be applied to adjustable speed motors and induction generators with appropriate attention to the specific requirements of such applications.Additional requirements for special-purpose motors are covered in Part II. Special-purpose motors are those motors driving unspared equipment in critical service@ motors rated over 1000 horsepower@ motors driving high inertia loads@ vertical motors supporting high thrust loads@ motors that are part of a complete train requiring vibration sensitivity criteria@ or motors that must operate in abnormally hostile environments.Note: A bullets (?) at the beginning of a paragraph indicates that a decision by the purchaser is required.
