This standard establishes the minimum requirements for the technical characteristics and reliability of ventilators for resuscitation (hereinafter referred to as devices) for patients of all age groups. It specifies the technical characteristics of manually operated, pneumatically operated devices, which are portable devices intended for use in emergency situations to ventilate the lungs of persons with inadequate breathing. For devices with pneumatic drive, the standard provides requirements for pneumatic supply. Requirements for devices for reviving children and adolescents are established depending on their body weight and age. Requirements for devices intended only to supply gas to persons with adequate breathing and for devices intended to enhance or provide ventilation to a patient for an extended period of time are not covered by this standard. Electrically driven devices are not covered in this standard.
