Scope

This document describes the test methods for the size and mass of wheelchair vehicles. This document describes the method of determining the external dimensions and the activity space required by the occupant of the wheelchair in daily life. This document specifies the dimensions, mass and publication requirements of five informative appendices. Appendix A provides the detection method of important dimensions, which is a very important performance index of wheelchairs. Appendix B gives details on pivot width and commutation width. Appendix C gives detailed information on the turning diameter. Appendix D gives detailed information on determining the longitudinal axis and center point of the wheelchair. Appendix E gives technical guidelines and recommendations for measuring wheelchairs, which facilitates the understanding of the design and construction of wheelchairs. This document applies to manual wheelchairs and electric wheelchairs (including electric scooters).
