Scope
The purpose of these recommended practices is to provide guidance for the oil and gas industry in the completion@ servicing@ workover@ and abandonment of oil@ gas@ and service wells located in offshore areas on platforms or fixed structures@ artificial islands@ and caisson-type structures. Offshore areas include all areas seaward of established coastal boundaries. These recommended practices provide for well protection and well control concurrent with personnel safety and environmental protection. There are no guidelines included for specific downhole work where many alternatives usually exist and@ in many cases@ where the operator is guided by practices@ well conditions@ and other related factors outside the scope of these recommended practices. Such downhole operations are considered too complex and too variable to fall within the scope and coverage of these recommended practices. Specific downhole operations are a matter of proprietary interest and the operator must be guided by well conditions and safety as well as economic considerations. These recommended practices have specifically excluded practices unique to subsea well equipment and operations and to operations associated with production of offshore wells involving hydrogen sulfide.
