Scope

This document provides general procedural guidance for performing a lifetime assessment of an HVDC converter station. Subsequently, a more detailed description of the performance issues of a thyristor-based HVDC system is given, along with lifetime assessment measures for equipment and guidance for assessing the technical and economic lifetime of equipment. This document also includes information on HVDC system retrofit specifications and testing of retrofit and replacement equipment. Finally, this document outlines the environmental and regulatory issues involved in the lifetime assessment and ends with a financial analysis of the retrofit options.
