Scope
This standard specifies a method for the detection and determination of N-nitrosodi-ethanolamine (NDELA) in cosmetic products and raw materials for their manufacture. This method is not used for the detection and/or determination of the content of other nitrosamines, as well as for the detection and/or determination of the NDELA content in products that are not cosmetic products or raw materials for their manufacture. If product contamination with NDELA is possible through ingredients, or NDELA formation is possible as a result of mixing of ingredients, the method can be used to quantify NDELA. However, this method is not a standard method for cosmetic products, since the scope of this standard covers a wide variety of cosmetic products and the method may need to be adapted to some matrices (see ISO 12787). In this regard, standards establishing alternative methods for the determination of nitrosamines in cosmetic products are being developed separately. Other methods may be used provided they have been tested for their ability to detect NDELA and have been validated under conditions of reproducibility and quantitation
