Scope
FOREWORD Hydraulic-turbine-driven generators@ because of their physical size@ are usually shipped in several parts and are completely assembled for the first time when they are installed in the power house. The installation@ then@ becomes a continuation of the manufacturing process@ and many of the operations involved are those which are normally performed in the factory on smaller generators. Close tolerance must be maintained in the fix and alignment of the various parts. The use of proper installation procedures is essential to achieve satisfactory operation of the unit. The suggested procedures for the installation of vertical-shaft hydraulic-turbine-driven generators@ as presented in this publication@ were developed by the Large Generator Group of the Motor and Generator Section and were approved for publication by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association. These procedures are based upon the combined experience of all member companies in the Group-experience grained during the manufacture and erection of such generators which are now producing millions of kilovolt amperes. This publication is periodically reviewed by the Large Generator Group of the Motor and Generator Section of NEMA for any revisions necessary to keep it up to date with advancing technology.
