Scope
IEC 60683:2011 specifies the procedures, conditions and test methods by which the main parameters and main operating characteristics of submerged arc furnaces with rated electrical power levels above 500 kVA are established. This standard is applicable to submerged arc furnaces with one or more electrodes. In order to determine further technical or economic evaluations, additional testing may be necessary. Testing for special semiconductor converter-controlled furnace equipment, such as controlled rectifiers or controlled AC converters, is covered by IEC 60146-1-1. This second edition cancels and replaces the previous edition published in 1980, of which it constitutes a technical revision. Significant technical changes compared to the previous edition are as follows: ——Article 1 (Scope and purpose) - the types of ovens covered by this standard are defined more clearly. - Article 2 (Normative references) and Article 3 (Terms and definitions) have been updated and supplemented. - A new Article 4 (Characteristics of the submerged arc furnace system) has been added; It mainly deals with the testing required for the installation's high voltage/high current electrical equipment. - Article 5 (Tests and general conditions) and Article 6 (Technical tests) have been modified according to current requirements for the safe use of a submerged arc furnace.",PE
