Scope

This section covers the application@ selection@ and installation of area safety monitors commonly used in petroleum refineries for (1) toxic gas analysis@ (2) combustible gas analysis@ and (3) fire and smoke detection. Portable analyzers and instruments whose primary function is laboratory analysis are not discussed. Refer to RP 550@ Part I@ Section 13@ for alarm systems actuated by these area monitors.
