This standard applies to fits used in mechanical engineering. Flush fittings for ball bearings are considered a special application of the ISO fitting system and are not included in this standard. The stated preferred fits are largely derived from the possibilities that ISO 1829 offers in a more general sense. They should be regarded primarily as a guideline: both the given construction and the associated operating conditions ultimately determine the final choice of a fit.
