Scope
This standard establishes a method for determining the flammability of vertically oriented textiles and industrial products consisting of one or more fabrics (coverings, linings, multi-layer structures and other combinations) exposed to a specified flame intensity. This method evaluates the properties of textiles when exposed to fire under controlled conditions. Tests may not produce the required results if air supply is limited or if the sample is exposed to intense heat radiation. The effect of stitches on the burning characteristics of fabrics is determined by this method: the position of the stitch is set in the test sample so that this stitch is exposed to the flame. Where practicable, individual fragments should be tested as parts of the entire textile product in which they are or will be included.
