Scope
This standard describes a method for determining the selenium content of water using atomic absorption spectrometry. The standard applies to aqueous solutions from which particles larger than 0.45 µm have been removed. The detection limit depends on the device used; In general, selenium contents can be determined from 0.8 [ig/l. The determination can be disturbed if the following elements are present in the sample above the given concentrations. Ash from 80 ug/1 Sn from 150 ug/1 Fe from 200 mg/l Cu from 8 mg/l NOTE During the research carried out for the development of the standard, it turned out that it generally also applies to surface water from which the sludge suspended in it has not been removed, in which case a total content is determined. However, it must be borne in mind that selenium, which is incorporated into, for example, a silicate matrix, will not always come into solution with the described method.
