1.1 This standard describes galvanized steel strands which are suitable for use as stay cables, supporting strands, cross cables and overhead earth wire strands. The strands of overhead earth wires for the transmission of electrical energy are free from joints. This standard includes requirements for grades 800, 1100, 1300 and 1500 (110, 160, 180 and 220). For all grades, zinc coating includes Class A hot-dip galvanized coatings and Class A, B or C electro-galvanizing coatings. Construction features include 7, 19 or greater than 19 strands son. 1.2 This standard is not intended for use in the manufacture or purchase of galvanized ACSR strands, galvanized bridge strands, smooth surface load-bearing cables, or galvanized frame cables. 1.3 Values shown in SI units are the official values in this standard. Values in parentheses are given for information and comparison purposes only. The values shown in each system are not exactly equivalent. Each system is designed to be used independently of the other. 1.4 In this standard, the term “shall” indicates a requirement, that is, a requirement that the user must comply with to ensure compliance with the standard; “should” indicates a recommendation or what is advisable but not obligatory to do; and “may” indicates a possibility or what is permitted to be done.
