The assessment of environmental noise limits and the comparison of scenarios in space studies are based on sound pressure levels. This document describes how to measure sound pressure levels. The sound pressure level can be determined by direct measurement and extrapolation of the measurement results. This document is primarily intended for outdoor use, but some guidelines for indoor measurements are also given. To a large extent, the uncertainty of measurement determined and reported varies in each case and is inseparable from the effort of the user in the measurement, so no limit is set on the maximum allowable uncertainty. Due to the difference between the operating and propagation conditions during the actual measurement and the reference operating or propagation conditions, the measurement results are usually combined with the calculations, and the measurement results are corrected. This document applies to all types of environmental noise sources, such as road and rail traffic noise, aircraft noise and industrial noise.
