Scope
This part of GB/T 18838 specifies the technical requirements for 12 grades of low-carbon cast steel shot abrasives used for blast cleaning, including hardness, density, defects and structural requirements, and chemical composition. The requirements specified in this part of GB/T 18838 only apply to unused abrasives, not to used abrasives. The test methods for metal abrasives used for blast cleaning are shown in various parts of GB/T 19816. Low carbon cast steel shot is a recyclable and reusable abrasive for use in both stationary and field blasting equipment. Note 1: See Appendix A and Appendix B for commonly referenced world standards on metal abrasives and their relationship with this part. Note 2: Although this part of GB/T 18838 is specially formulated to meet the surface treatment requirements of steel structures, the specified characteristics are generally applicable to surfaces or components of other materials treated using blast cleaning technology. These provisions are given in ISO 8504-2:20001 'Methods for surface preparation of steel surfaces before application of coatings - Part 2: Abrasive blast cleaning'.
