Scope
1.1 This standard sets out the recommended course programs allowing the two levels of technicians called upon to practice radiography in the police and security services to acquire the essential bases for their training as well as the terms of their accreditation. 1.2 This standard covers only the radiographic inspection methods and techniques covered by the recommended course curriculum and guidelines set out in Annexes A and B. 1.3 Accreditation in accordance with this standard shall ensure recognition of qualifications and the skill of technicians to perform basic x-ray checks using low-energy portable equipment and complex x-ray checks using a range of x-ray machines. 1.4 The accreditation arrangements set out in this standard do not necessarily cover the radiographic control methods and techniques required for particular situations. Establishments and organizations that refer to this standard must ensure that radiography technicians from police and security services who use the methods and techniques of radiographic control required in particular situations have received specialized training giving them a higher qualification and allowing them to meet the additional requirements indicated in Annex F, even before they are authorized to carry out non-destructive testing by radiography in these particular situations. 1.5 In the context of the examination and qualification of radiography technicians, this standard deals with general aspects of radiation protection. Technicians are not, however, safety experts in handling specific devices and performing specialized procedures. It is the responsibility of organizations using this standard to ensure that technicians are familiar with the relevant equipment and have the training required to work safely. 1.6 Organizations and technicians using this standard must comply with the requirements of the authorities having jurisdiction, including the Atomic Energy Control Commission, federal or provincial health authorities.
