Purpose and r?nge of application ifferent measuring instmments and methods are needed to determine dimensional variations@ form deviations and positional variations on gearings (cf. guideline VDI/VDE 2612). The measurement values recorded are evaluated either manually or with the aid of a Computer by different mathematical methods. As a consequence@ measurement results obtained for the same object are not directly comparable and a higher uncertainty of the results must be reckoned with. To avoid these disadvantages@ it is inevitable to evaluate the data@ which were determined by the hardware@ by defined methods using a Computer. This is the objective of this guideline. Furthermore@ the Information content of the evaluated measurement results also depends on the extent to which the instmmental conditions under which the data were taken have been defined beforehand and are fulfilled; this will be dealt with in more detail in section 3. In section 4@ the computer-aided evaluation of the profile and the helix of cylindrical gears is elucidated. Criteria for assessing the measurement results are treated in section 5. This guideline is also valid for intemal gears; the applicability to other gears (e.g. worm wheels@ bevel gears@ cylindrical gears with helix angles > 60 ??will not be dealt with.
