Scope
1.1 This code sets out requirements for the installation, modification and maintenance of solid fuel appliances and related equipment installed indoors or outdoors. 1.2 For the purposes of the Code, solid fuel appliances mean: a) hot air generators; b) boilers; c) stoves; d) cookers; e) stoves; f) prefabricated fireplaces; and g) domestic water heaters. 1.3 For the purposes of the Code, the term “solid fuel” includes: (a) cordwood; b) shavings; c) sawdust; d) peat balls; e) wood and biofuel pellets; f) grain corn; and g) coal. 1.4 This code does not apply to: a) incinerators; b) homes built on site; c) equipment used in industrial processes; or (d) portable devices. 1.5 In this code, the term “shall” indicates a requirement, that is, a requirement that the user must comply with to ensure compliance with the standard; “should” indicates a recommendation or what is advisable but not obligatory to do; and “may” indicates a possibility or what is permitted to be done. They are used to separate from the text explanations or information that are not properly part of the code. Notes at the bottom of figures and tables are part of these and can be written as prescriptions. The annexes are qualified as normative (mandatory) or informative (optional) to clarify their application. 1.6 The values indicated in SI units are the official values of this code. Values in parentheses are given for information and comparison purposes only.
