Scope

Within the general scope defined in Section I, Volume 830.15 applies to mobile hydraulic cranes of the full revolving type that use hydraulic power to operate the majority of the basic functions. They may be crawler mounted cranes, wheel mounted cranes of both truck and self-propelled wheel type, and any variations thereof which retain the same fundamental characteristics. The boom may have a basic boom structure of two sections (upper and lower) between or beyond which additional sections may be added to increase its length, or may consist of a base boom from which one or more boom extensions are telescoped for additional length. See ANSI-830.5 Standard for Crawler, Locomotive and Truck Cranes of the nonhydraulic type. Some basic machine types within this scope are usually convertible for excavating work and other uses not considered to be lifting service. The requirements of this volume are applicable only to machines when used as lifting cranes.
