Scope
ESDU 16002 gives a detailed account of the principles of constant-temperature thermal anemometry (CTA). Typical single- and multiple- component hot-wire and hot-film probe configurations are described@ together with their application in various media@ setup and calibration procedures. Special considerations@ such as the need for temperature compensation in some applications@ are also discussed. Guidance is given on cabling and optimisation of the bridge-circuit and signal-conditioning settings. Other applications for which the basic CTA circuitry can be used are also described. Flow charts are given to help determine if CTA is appropriate for a given application and to aid probe selection. ESDU 16002 should be read in conjunction with the introductory Data Item@ ESDU 16001.
