This standard applies to each of the following explosion-proof structures that are installed or brought into a location where an explosive atmosphere [see 2. (2)] is generated or is likely to be generated (hereinafter referred to as a "hazardous location"). This section specifies the general requirements common to electrical machinery and equipment (hereinafter referred to as explosion-proof electrical equipment). (1) Flameproof explosion-proof structure for electrical equipment (2) Internal pressure explosion-proof structure for electrical equipment (3) Oil-immersed explosion-proof structure for enclosed equipment (4) Increased safety explosion-proof structure for electrical equipment (5) Intrinsically safe explosion-proof structure for electrical equipment The standard applies to explosion-proof electrical equipment where the ambient conditions for the explosive properties of explosive atmospheres are considered to be within the temperature range - 20-+60 °C and within the pressure range 80-110 kPa. However, conditions other than these need to be considered separately. This standard does not apply to electrical components that do not exceed any of the values specified in the manufacturer's specifications: voltage 1.2 V, current 0.1 A, electrical energy 20 μJ, and power 25 mW. However, if these are connected to other circuits and there is a risk of exceeding any of the values, this standard and the standards for each explosion-proof structure shall apply.
