- This document describes the details of the test apparatus used to determine the smoke emitted by electrical or optical cables when they are burned under specified conditions, for example when some electrical or optical cables are burned horizontally. The transmittance (It) can be used as a means of comparing different cables or judging compliance with specific requirements, under flaming or flameless conditions. Note: "cable" in this document refers to all insulated metal conductor cables used to transmit electrical energy or signals.
