- Scope
- This standard specifies the testing method for silica hydroxyl groups on the surface of fumed silica (commonly known as fumed silica), including relevant provisions on principles, drugs, reagents, and instruments. This standard is applicable to the testing of the silanol content on the surface of fumed silica. The acid-base titration method is suitable for the testing of the silanol content on the surface of hydrophilic fumed silica. The reactive gas chromatography method is suitable for testing the silanol content on the surface of hydrophilic and hydrophobic fumed silica. This standard is not applicable to the test of silanol content on the surface of fumed silica whose samples contain substances that can react with Grignard reagents.
