This standard describes the standardized measurement method for measuring heating in lamp caps, which will be used when testing tungsten filament lamps or discharge lamps to determine their compliance with the limits. Heating limits for particular types of lamps are, for example, listed in IEC Standard 432: Safety requirements for tungsten filament lamps for domestic use and similar general lighting. The standard covers the test method and specifications for test lamp holders to be used with lamps that are fitted with various types and sizes of Edison screw caps (ES) and ballonet caps (BC). This method has been widely used for incandescent lamps, but its application is not limited to that type of lamp.
