Scope

This standard applies to coal tar phenolic products and specifies a method for the determination of neutral oil content in the phenolic fraction, dicresol, tricresol and xylenol. The essence of the method is to convert phenolic products into phenolates, extract neutral oils with carbon tetrachloride, remove phenols and pyridine bases from the extract, distill off carbon tetrachloride and determine the mass of the residue
