In recent years@ in recognition of the important part that thermal fatigue plays in high-temperature applications@ investigations have been sponsored by a number of agencies. Such investigations are generally done for special purposes with some selected materials under certain specific conditions. In this early stage of the art@ the results have been sometimes controversial and even contradictory. It is the purpose of this review to appraise significant results that have appeared in technical journals and published reports.
