Scope
This standard specifies the rated values and operating conditions, environmental performance and test requirements for devices with communication functions for power equipment. It describes the environmental conditions and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) immunity levels and simulated environmental tests related to power equipment. It provides acceptance criteria for evaluating the functionality of equipment. For equipment used in power equipment and having communication ports (fiber optic ports, copper wire ports [such as Ethernet, Ethernet power supply, serial, carrier current communication interface], antenna ports, etc.), if the equipment does not perform protection or control functions, the testing of communication functions is covered by IEEE Std 1613. If the equipment performs protection or control functions and has communication ports, the testing of all communication functions is covered by the IEEE C37.90 series of standards. The purpose of this standard is to define the environmental and EMC conditions required for the design and evaluation of equipment with communication functions for power equipment to establish a common and reproducible basis. This standard applies only to the use of finished equipment or fully assembled equipment in its intended use.
