Scope

Scope 1.1 This standard sets out requirements for the evaluation of adhesives used to bond solid wood materials in structural lumber products designed for exterior use. Note: See Appendix C for additional information on outdoor exposure and other mold exposure categories of structural lumber adhesives. 1.2 This standard sets out specific requirements for evaluating the resistance of adhesives to: a) shear caused by compressive loading; carried out in a dry environment and in a humid environment; b) delamination during accelerated exposure to wetting and drying; and c) deformation under static shear stress during exposure to heat, high humidity, or a combination of heat and high humidity. 1.3 This standard does not apply to adhesives intended for use below ground level, in contact with ground or in marine applications. 1.4 This standard does not concern the evaluation of the effects of chemical treatments of wood on the performance of adhesives. 1.5 In this standard, the term “shall” indicates a requirement, that is, a requirement that the user must comply with to ensure compliance with the standard; “should” indicates a recommendation or what is advisable but not obligatory to do; and “may” indicates a possibility or what is permitted to be done. The notes that accompany the articles do not include prescriptions or recommendations. They are used to separate from the text explanations or information that are not properly part of the standard. Notes at the bottom of figures and tables are part of these and can be written as prescriptions. The annexes are qualified as normative (mandatory) or informative (optional) to clarify their application. 1.6 Values shown in SI units are the official values in this standard.
