ABSTRACT The objective of this in vivo assay was to evaluate the ability of API #83-07 to induce chromosomal aberrations in rat bone marrow cells. Groups of animals (5 males and 5 females) were acutely dosed with one of three dose levels of the test article (2.0@ 0.67 or 0.2 g/kg) and were killed at either 6@ 24 or 48 hours after dosing. Negative control groups were included at each kill time while a positive control group was only included at the 24 hour kill time. The test article@ API #83-07@ did not Induce significant increases in the percentage of chromosomally aberrant cells or did not affect the mitotic index of the bone marrow in either sex at any of the doses or kill times. API #83-07 is considered negative for inducing chromosomal aberrations in bone marrow cells of both male and female rats when tested under conditions of this assay.
