Scope
WARNING: This document may involve hazardous materials, practices, and equipment. This document is not intended to address all security concerns related to its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this document to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of any other restrictions prior to use. This document specifies the requirements for the application and documentation of methods for the determination of particulate contamination (cleanliness checks) of components and systems relevant to the functioning of road vehicles. Cleanliness inspections form the basis of technical cleanliness assessments, for example, in the following cases: - initial inspection and assessment; - inspection of incoming and outgoing components; - quality of manufacturing processes related to cleanliness Control or monitoring (such as cleaning, surface preparation and assembly processes). This document aims to improve the information quality and comparability of test results, and at the same time stipulates the cleanliness specification and standardized expression of cleanliness test results in the quality chain of the automotive industry. This document does not apply to the following: --- detection of film contamination (grease, oil, etc.); --- application of non-quantifiable particle detection methods on test parts (such as visual evaluation, wiping test liquid with a clean cloth, etc. ); ——the characteristics of the working fluid (fuel, oil, coolant, brake fluid, etc.). This document does not specify any cleanliness limits for specific components or systems. The degree of cleanliness required for a particular component or system depends on many highly independent factors. The determination of the cleanliness specification is undertaken by an expert who not only understands the relevant components themselves, but also is familiar with the system composed of them, the conditions of later use, the feasibility of the technology, and the possible consequences of application to the manufacturing process and supply chain. Guidance on obtaining cleanliness limits is given in Appendix H.
