Scope
ESDU 78027 gives an approximate method for estimating the temperature rise@ with the likely minimum and maximum bound on it@ for a simple self-contained assembly so that an initial decision can be made whether the more refined analysis of ESDU 78028 and 78029 need be followed. To estimate the heat generated@ ESDU 78027 assumes the friction in the bearing is known; guidance on the value is provided where no information is available. To estimate the heat dissipation@ equations and graphs are given to establish the thermal resistance of the various component parts such as bushes@ housings@ rotating shafts@ and so on. ESDU 79002 gives comprehensive worked examples illustrating the use of the methods of ESDU 78027 to 78029.
