Scope
Scope 1.1 Inclusions This code applies to: a) the design, siting, construction, operation, operator training and maintenance of LNG fueling centers , including mobile LNG fueling units (MLRUs) having a single containment storage tank with a water capacity of not more than 265 m3 (70,000 gal), used for dispensing operations to LNG vehicles ; (b) factory-built and assembled fueling centers used to receive and store LNG for distribution into vehicle fuel tanks; and c) the LNG part of centers which vaporize and pressurize LNG to make CNG, up to the isolation valve (inclusive) installed at the outlet of the odorizer. When a fueling center distributes other fuels in addition to LNG, this code applies only to the LNG fueling equipment and system. 1.2 Exclusions This code does not apply to: a) indoor refueling; (b) ship LNG refueling facilities; (c) locomotive LNG refueling facilities; d) the equipment, piping or tubing downstream of the isolation valve installed at the outlet of the LNG/C system odorizer (see CSA B108.1); (e) CNG equipment, including equipment used for the storage, compression and/or distribution of CNG; f) CNG mobile refueling units (URMG) and portable refueling units (URPG); (g) equipment, piping or tubing downstream of the gas pressure regulator of closed gas evaporation systems; h) the distribution of LNG in tanks other than those of vehicles or tanks; i) liquefaction equipment; (j) LNG engine fuel systems; k) repair workshops for LNG and CNG equipment; l) buried LNG piping or tubing; (m) LNG storage tanks, pumps and process piping or tubing where an LNG refueling center jointly uses the storage tank of the LNG installation; and n) the transfer of LNG from the LNG storage system of one vehicle to the LNG storage system of another vehicle. This does not apply to a bulk gas storage system. 1.3 Pressure Terminology Unless otherwise stated, pressure in this code is gauge pressure May 2021 © 2021 Canadian Standards Association 18 1.4 Terminology In this code, the term “shall” indicates a requirement, i.e. - state a requirement that the user must follow to ensure compliance with the code; “should” indicates a recommendation or what is advisable but not obligatory to do; and “may” indicates a possibility or what is permitted to be done. The notes that accompany the articles do not include requirements or alternative requirements; they are used to separate from the text explanations or information that are not properly part of the code. Notes at the bottom of figures and tables are part of these and can be written as prescriptions. The annexes are qualified as normative (mandatory) or informative (optional) to clarify their application. 1.5 Use of SI units Values shown in SI units are the official values in this code. Values in parentheses are given for information and comparison purposes only.
