Scope
This International Standard / This part of IEC/ISO/IEEE 82079 - provides principles and general requirements for information for use of products. This information for use is: necessary for their safe use; helpful for their efficient and effective use; and required to fulfil market and regulatory obligations. Products include: consumer products (e.g. household appliances@ audio-visual and communication devices@ do-it-yourself products.); industrial products (e.g. machinery@ components@ devices@ and equipment); medical devices@ equipment and systems; complex systems of systems (e.g. industrial plants@ refineries@ production sites@ data centres); vehicles (e.g. cars@ trucks@ ships and airplanes); application software (e.g. office software and web-applications); software for operation and control of systems; technical services. this part of IEC/ISO/IEEE 82079 provides the common and fundamental aspects serving as the binding and generic framework for additional parts. This part of IEC/ISO/IEEE 82079 applies to information for use whether provided electronically or in printed form. Note Information for use includes@ for example@ instructions for use@ troubleshooting information@ training materials@ and information for assembly@ operation and maintenance This part of IEC/ISO/IEEE 82079 is intended for use by all parties responsible for or involved in the conceptualisation@ creation@ translation@ localisation@ integration of content@ production@ provision and evaluation@ acquisition and supply of information for use. The parties concerned with information for use include@ but not confined to: managers (on general level or with product responsibilities); content owners and content creators@ (such as@ technical writers@ information developers@ and illustrators); technical translators and localisation experts; authorities@ agencies and authorised experts; acquirers and suppliers of products. The aim of this part of IEC/ISO/IEEE 82079 is to provide these parties with the common and fundamental basis for developing information for use of supported products of the required quality. This part of IEC/ISO/IEEE 82079 is suitable to be applied and referenced in product standards. It is helpful to elaborate product specific requirements for target audience(s)s and/or product information. Conformity with this part of IEC/ISO/IEEE 82079 does not release suppliers from their obligations to assess the legal framework for product compliance within each separate distribution area. Inadequate product related information can result in product liability risks. The order of clauses in this part of IEC/ISO/IEEE 82079 does not imply that the information for use should be developed in this order or presented to the target audience(s) in this order.
