The preliminary standard applies to the examination of both saltwater and freshwater fish and fishery products, such as crustaceans and molluscs, as well as frozen fish, fishmeal, smoked fish and packaged fish products. This preliminary standard also applies to land snails. For sampling, reference is made to NVN 5643. The methods described are suitable for accident situations, but can also be used for background monitoring. After the sample preparation described in this preliminary standard, the sample is suitable for various measurements, for example measurement of the activity of gamma-ray emitting radionuclides according to NVN 5623 or NVN 5629 or for measurement of specific radionuclides (for example according to NVN 5637 and NVN 5638).
