Scope
This standard describes the determination of the concentration of vinyl chloride 1) (VC) in workplace air, using active sampling with an adsorption tube, liquid desorption and gas chromatography. Note The general procedure for calibration, sampling and analysis is described in NVN 2947, as well as terms and definitions, principle, reagents and auxiliaries, equipment and auxiliaries, calculations of desorption efficiency and mass concentration in air and report. The standard applies to the determination of the deconcentration of VC in workplace air using an adsorption tube filled with activated carbon as an adsorbent. The standard can be used for a concentration range from 25 ng/m3 to 25 mg/m3 with a sample volume of 30 L and a sampling period of 4 hours to 8 hours. Note For the restrictions on the area of application, see also NVN 2947. Other components that have an equal or almost equal retention time in the gas chromatographic analysis as the substance to be determined can interfere. The interference can be reduced by correct choice of column and setting of the gas chromatograph. The sampling method is suitable for both personal sampling and location-based sampling and provides an average concentration over a certain time (time-weighted average, TGG).
